I’m a fan of footwear in general; and I admit that my sense of style has grown over the past year and a half. I find myself looking at other alternatives to sneakers. I’ve since then started buying more what I like to call “contemporary” shoes. I spend a lot of time on The Shoe Buff browsing, learning and reading. I figured I’d share my most recent discovery with you guys. Keep in mind this isn’t new, just new to me. And yes, I’ve seen low cut socks before but not in White, Grey & Black designed specifically with us in mind. Enjoy
Here is yet another edition of Ty’s “Sneaker Look Book” for another sneaker experience.
Ty’s “Sneaker Book Diaries” Entry #2
This week I updated my Look Book quite a bit and happen to notice another interesting story buried in my experiences. I saw a friend awhile ago and when I first noticed it was him and got his attention we started on about sneakers and as we got going he started talking about his new found love for his black/cherry red Reebok Zig Tech’s. I, at the time had no interest in them but what I had noticed was the dope sneakers on his feet that had been on my list for quite some time. He was sporting the Nike Air Trainer 1/Chlorophyll in the red/black/blue/grey color way! I was astonished to see these retro’s sported by someone who technically had no idea of their origin. These shoes came from the year of sneaker revolution, 1987. They are slowly making a comeback but are still rarely spotted. After I briefed him on his sneaker’s history I had to go and left with yet another mark off in the books.
Thanks.

The original BTF2 shoes for the movie were designed by Tinker Hatfield and
built by hand in the Nike Sample Room. The lights in the side of the midsole
and the Nike logo on the ankle strap were electro-luminescent panels. There also was an array of six randomly flashing LEDs on the side of the heel that were never visible in the movie. Originally they were called “Slamball Shoes,” and that’s what most people called them around Nike. There was supposed to have been a scene in the movie in which Marty plays Slamball, a game like 3D racquetball where the participants wear magnetic shoes which allow them to climb up the walls.
That scene was never shot because the cost of building a huge room on
gimbals to create the effect was too great. The REAL name of the shoes in Marty McFly’s world of 2015 was the “Nike Mag” because of their magnetic properties, and that’s what is molded in the back of the heel.

Look for our episode really soon on this Ronnie Fieg release. This happens to be my absolute favorite one Ronnie’s done ever. I know many people could agree.
There’s something about Vintage Nike that does it for me. I mean I’d love to personally get my hands on this collection or even some of it. I can see the where a lot of the newer silhouettes grabbed inspiration from. Take a look at the pics below and let us know what you think. What spawned what? S/O to SQ for the pics.
